Assalamualaikum, Selamat Datang, salam Sarawak Maju Makmur and welcome to the Sarawak Premier’s Office website.  

It has been eight years that I have helmed Sarawak as its sixth Premier (previously styled as Chief Minister) after assuming office on 13^th January, 2017.

Sarawak under the stewardship of the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government aspires to be a developed and high-income region by 2030. This entails doubling the size of Sarawak’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from RM136 billion in 2019 to RM282 billion in 2030 as outlined in the Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030). 

I am delighted that Sarawak has been categorised as a high-income state by the World Bank, seven years earlier than targeted with a gross national income (GNI) per capita of more than USD13, 205 (RM61,442) in 2022. In 2024 the GNI stood at RM73,100, thus maintaining the status for three consecutive years and fourth-placed in the national ranking.

In terms of revenue, Sarawak made a tremendous achievement  when it recorded an income of RM14.2 billion in 2024, the highest in the State’s history and a two-fold increase from the pre-2017 figure.

As spelt  in PCDS2030 and reviewed under the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026-2030), I strongly believe that Sarawak’s pursuit of a green and sustainable economy and climate change initiatives will unlock vast opportunities for Sarawak to expand its economy and bring the overall economy to an unprecedented level.

Sarawak also aspires to be at the forefront of technological innovation, particularly in the semiconductor industry. Through intense R&D, I am confident that Sarawak can become a hub for compound chip design and manufacturing in order to benefit from the trillion-dollar industry.

I cannot over-emphasised the importance of human capital and talent development to the overall future development of Sarawak. For this reason, the GPS Government will implement the Free Tertiary Education Sarawak Initiative (FTES) starting next year (2026) for students studying in the state-owned universities.

I sincerely hope that this website will provide you some valuable insight into the various policies and initiatives of the GPS Government under my leadership. Your in-depth understanding of Sarawak’s development policies and strategies is vital for the State to transform itself into an economic power house in the country and in the Asian region.
